Àyánkọ́lá Àyánwuyì is a Àyánkọ́lá Àyánwuyì is a cultural practitioner, cultural researcher and cultural educator. It’s on that basis that we became bosom friends. He is the founder and executive director of Dùndún Centre (formerly AIF Yorùbá Cultural Centre), and has produced numerous quality Yorùbá cultural documentaries, earning recognition across the globe.
He is the author of “Èṣù is Not Satan,” a book that corrects a long-accepted misconception about Èṣù. Beyond the book, he has led efforts to help Yorùbá people rediscover themselves through several culturally rich documentaries.
Àyánkọ́lá holds the record for producing the highest number of video documentaries on Ògbómọ̀ṣọ́ history, interviewing and recording historians, stakeholders, and knowledgeable elders to educate and preserve that history through his storytelling craft.
His work is recognized worldwide, including his 2022 documentary “Space-Sitting Prowess of Egúngún Àjòmógbòdó,” which went on to screen at international film festivals and institutions, including Stanford University. Such international recognition, among others, earned him a place among forty international youth delegates at a UNESCO heritage and innovation forum in China in 2025, alongside cultural voices from around the world.
As a fellow Ọmọ Afògbojà, what I admire most is how Àyánkọ́lá Àyánwuyì uses these quality documentaries to tell the world about Ògbómọ̀ṣọ́. If you love Ògbómọ̀ṣọ́, chances are you’ve already seen one of his documentaries about our beloved city.
In 2024, I hosted him in Jos, and for the past two years, we’ve worked closely together on the documentary “A Road From Ògbómọ̀ṣọ́ to Jos.” I enjoyed every moment spent co-producing this project, which tells the story of how Ògbómọ̀ṣọ́ people found a second home in Jos.
Before the documentary is made public, private screening events will hold in Jos and Ògbómọ̀ṣọ́ in the first week of September. We want it to be an avenue that brings us together as one, and we’re counting on all of you to make it a success.
